What is the H&R Block Income Tax Course?
The Income Tax Course (INCOME TAX COURSE) offers everything you need to know to prepare taxes professionally¹- even if you have no prior experience. Convenient locations, and class times, mean you'll learn from the best on a schedule that works for you. Your tax preparation career starts here!

H&R Block has been approved by the California Tax Education Council to offer The H&R Block Income Tax Course, course number 1040-QE-0002, which fulfills the 60-hour "qualifying education" requirement imposed by the State of California to become a tax preparer. How much does the class cost?
While the cost of the course may vary based upon location, the course content is consistent around the country. The cost of the course does not in any way determine the content or quality. Find a class near you.
Are there additional costs for books and materials?
In most cases the price of tuition includes the book fee. However, in some states the cost of books and materials is separate.
How often does the class meet?
Classes generally meet 2-3 times a week or on weekends in 3-hour sessions for 13 weeks, for a total of 84 hours* of instruction and 3 hours of a final exam.

The course is 11 weeks, consisting of 84 hours* of instruction.

When are classes available?
Classes usually begin early August to mid-September and go through November. Specific dates will be listed with the class you have chosen to attend. Find a class near you to learn specific class dates.
Will class times meet my schedule?
We vary our class times and locations to accommodate our students. The H&R Block Income Tax Course is designed for busy people with jobs, school or family commitments. Find a class that fits your schedule.
What happens if I miss a class?
Classes are held days, evenings and weekends. If you miss your regular time, you may be able to take a class at another time that week. And, if you are traveling in the U.S., you may be able to take a course at another H&R Block location nationwide to ensure you won't miss anything.
May I enroll after the classes have already begun?
Enrollment is allowed up to and including the first week of class, but is discouraged after that time.
What if I want to learn about a specific area of tax preparation?
The course covers basic tax preparation and gives you the foundation needed to prepare a tax return. Our Tax Pros take advanced classes that focus on areas of special interest.
Do I get credit for previous education or training?
No credit for previous education or training is offered.
Do I need a college diploma?
No, you're not required to have a college degree. Graduation from high school or an equivalent degree is required in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Ohio and Texas.
What if I'm under 18 and want to take the course?
If a student is under the age of 18, the signature of a parent or guardian is required.
